When it comes time for your Family Photo Session, what type of session do you prefer? The ‘traditional’ family session in studio or even outdoors but with everyone posed together? Or do you prefer a ‘lifestyle’ session outdoors where the family interacts with each other? I admit that for my own family, I prefer a ‘lifestyle’ session. To start with, my first choice is always an outdoor photo. It fits my personality and my family’s personality to be outdoors. But more than that I feel a ‘lifestyle’ photoshoot lets personalities pop out and it tells a story. It also allows for the environment to be a part of the image, which can tell a story in itself. A ‘traditional’ session can be indoors or outdoors, it can still be a fun experience, the groups can still be broken down; we just focus on making sure everyone is looking at the camera and giving their best smiles. As your Family photographer, I will gladly do whatever type of session you prefer. And even though I lean towards ‘lifestyle’ sessions, we will still do some posed images of everyone as a group, then break it down into family groups – Mom & Dad, Mom & son(s), Mom & daughter(s), Dad & son(s), Dad & daughter(s), siblings, grandparents with grandkids, Grandpa & Grandma. But to have images that tell a story – Grandma & Grandpa laughing with the little ones, adult siblings kidding with each other, adult children showing the love and respect they have for their parents; those images tell a story that warms your heart.
My wall decor of family photos include ‘lifestyle’ images that show us walking with the grandkids, sitting together in winter coats in front of the barn, photos of the grandkids that show their mischief look or action. Those are the images that make me smile, that make me remember why I do what I do…..every single day.
