The Quiet Work

Life continues to be busy with spring in full swing and summer fast approaching. Family, grandkids, livestock, everyday responsibilities, and outdoor upkeep have kept me moving at a steady pace.

Even with life's busyness, I still try to carve out time for my photography.

Sometimes that time is spent with a camera in hand. Other times it's spent reviewing images, refining edits, listening to podcasts, attending webinars, researching exhibition opportunities, and preparing submissions. Much of the work happens quietly behind the scenes.

This month, that work resulted in some encouraging news. First Stirring, from my Land & Light gallery, was accepted into the inaugural exhibit at the Grassland Gallery.

While acceptance is always appreciated, what I value most is the reminder to keep showing up and doing the work. Photography, like many worthwhile things, is built one step at a time—one image, one edit, one submission, and yes, sometimes one rejection at a time.

The image above was created during a quiet morning when the first light of day was beginning to touch the hills. Moments like that are the reason I continue to pick up my camera, regardless of where an image may eventually end up.

The finished image is what most people see. What often goes unseen is the quiet work behind it; the learning, the studying, the refining, and the willingness to keep moving forward.

For now, I'll continue making time where I can, continuing to learn, and continuing to share the beauty I find along the way.
