3 Signs Your Brochure is Ready for a Refresh

If you’ve been handing out the same brochure for years, it might be time to take a closer look. Your brochure is often the first impression someone has of your business—whether they pick it up at the local visitor center or grab one off the counter at the local feed store. Is it telling the story you want it to tell?

Here are three clear signs your brochure might be ready for a refresh:

1. It Looks Like It Was Made in Word (and It Was)

We’ve all been there—bootstrapping and DIYing our way through marketing materials. But a brochure designed in Microsoft Word back in 2016 probably isn’t doing you any favors today. Outdated fonts, grainy photos, and clunky layouts can make your business look less polished than it really is.

Design tip: A clean, modern layout with professional images can go a long way. Keep it simple, use consistent fonts, and don’t be afraid of white space. Your message needs breathing room.

2. The Photos Don’t Reflect Who You Are Now

Maybe you’ve added new services, upgraded your location, or your breeding program has evolved. If the photos in your brochure still show your first booth setup or your old branding colors, it’s time for a change.

Design tip: Use fresh, high-quality images that represent your current story. Whether you’re running a small business or a guest ranch, your brochure should feel as authentic and vibrant as your business really is.

3. It Doesn’t Match the Rest of Your Brand

Your brochure should feel like a natural extension of everything else you're doing—your website, your signage, even your social media. If it feels disjointed or inconsistent, your customers may end up confused (or worse, uninterested).

Design tip: Make sure your fonts, colors, and tone of voice match across all your marketing materials. Consistency builds trust—and makes you look like the pro you are.

A fresh brochure can be a powerful tool—especially when it reflects the heart and soul of your business. If you’re not sure where to start, I’m here to help with both photography and design, tailored to small-town businesses, agriculture, and rural tourism.
